Full Day Kindergarten

The kindergartners have done a great job with their first full days of kindergarten!  This week we had library with Mrs. Parks and art with Ms. W (Windle) in addition to PE with Kim Gorey. Next week we will have our first music class with Rita Corey. In art the kindergartners started a butterfly project  with Ms. W - a perfect complement to our classroom study of monarch butterflies. We currently have four chrysalises and we are watching and waiting for the butterflies to emerge!

Scientists

In addition to observing the monarch metamorphosis, the kindergartners did some other observations as well. This year we will watch and record the changes of the maple tree in our school garden throughout the four seasons. In addition, the kindergartners did their first self portraits of the year. We will continue to do self portraits several more times this year. I am sure it will be amazing to watch the metamorphosis of the kindergartners throughout this school year!

Star Names

We have begun choosing a “star” each day.  This is a wonderful way to get to know each other better and to develop literacy skills at the same time!  We learn the letters in the star’s name; we clap the syllables in the star‘s name; we brainstorm words that rhyme with the star’s name; and we interview the star asking questions such as their favorite color and food. The star has special responsibilities such as holding the door open for their classmates and assisting the teachers with jobs.

Communication

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  Communication is an important part of our work as partners on behalf of your child’s educational growth and development.
