Each in-person school, we choose a "Star" for the day. In this activity, the kindergartners are motivated to learn about the letters in their names and their classmates' names, to count syllables in names, and to find words that rhyme with the star's name. The star gets to line up first and help the teachers with classroom jobs. We also interview the star by asking questions such as "What's your favorite food? and "Do you have a cat or dog?" This helps the kindergartners to get to know one another, to build self-esteem, and to create out classroom community.
