Kindergarten Science in the Garden

The kindergartners spent time in the garden making observations of the maple tree - the weather is changing and so is the tree!  The leaves are changing and falling!

Miss Kathy returned with this month's vegetable of the moth- peppers!  After discovering what's inside of a pepper, the kindergartners did some printing with peppers and paints!

Monarch butterflies

It was a warm sunny day - just perfect to release our newly hatched butterflies!

One butterfly emerged from its chrysalis while Ms W was holding the lid that it had been hanging from!

Looking for the proboscis (a long, tube-like "tongue" which the butterflies use to sip nectar and water.)

We decided to release the butterflies on flowers in the garden so they could fuel up on nectar before their big migration south!

Taste Test

Each month the Farm to School Program introduces a new vegetable for the students to try.  This month's vegetable is sweet peppers.  Our school garden educator, Kathy Cassin (a recently retired 2nd grade teacher) brought in red, yellow and green pepper slices for the kindergartners to taste. We then graphed the results of our favorite color pepper - yellow was the most popular color in our classroom!
