Monarch butterflies
One butterfly emerged from its chrysalis while Ms W was holding the lid that it had been hanging from!
Looking for the proboscis (a long, tube-like "tongue" which the butterflies use to sip nectar and water.)
We decided to release the butterflies on flowers in the garden so they could fuel up on nectar before their big migration south!
Taste Test
Each month the Farm to School Program introduces a new vegetable for the students to try. This month's vegetable is sweet peppers. Our school garden educator, Kathy Cassin (a recently retired 2nd grade teacher) brought in red, yellow and green pepper slices for the kindergartners to taste. We then graphed the results of our favorite color pepper - yellow was the most popular color in our classroom!
Kindergarten Scientists
The kindergartners have been doing what scientists do! They have been making observations of the maple tree in our school garden. We will follow the changes of the tree throughout the seasons of the year.
